Church Attendance Tracking That Actually Works
Passing a register around during service is slow, disruptive, and unreliable. Members skip it, handwriting is illegible, and the data never makes it into a spreadsheet. Shepherd replaces all of that with modern check-in methods designed for African churches — including WhatsApp check-in, the first of its kind in any church management software.

Multiple Check-In Methods for Every Church
Not every church has the same setup. That's why Shepherd offers multiple ways to capture attendance — pick what works for your congregation.
WhatsApp Check-In
This is Shepherd's signature attendance method, and it's uniquely suited to the African context. Before service begins, members receive a WhatsApp message asking if they're present. They simply reply "Yes" or tap a button — that's it. No app to download, no QR code to scan, no special hardware needed. Since over 90% of Ghanaians with smartphones already use WhatsApp daily, the adoption barrier is essentially zero. Family check-in is supported too — one message can check in an entire household.
QR Code Check-In
For churches that prefer a physical check-in station, Shepherd generates unique QR codes that members can scan with their phone cameras as they walk in. Set up a tablet or printed QR poster at the entrance, and attendance is captured instantly. This method works especially well for larger churches with multiple entrances or for conferences and special events. Each scan is timestamped, so you know exactly when members arrived — useful for churches with punctuality challenges.
Manual & Admin Check-In
Sometimes simplicity wins. Ushers or administrators can quickly mark members as present from the Shepherd dashboard during or after service. The interface is optimized for speed — search by name, tap to check in, move on. This is ideal for smaller churches or as a backup method for members who forgot their phones. You can also retroactively record attendance for past services.
Service Comparison & Trends
Which service is growing? Which one is declining? Shepherd's attendance analytics let you compare first service versus second service, weekday Bible study versus Sunday worship, and track trends over weeks, months, and years. Visual charts make it easy to spot patterns and present data to your church board. Export reports as PDF for denominational requirements.
